In her work "Right Here," Magdalena Jooss shows various facets of the frustrating and ambivalent struggle for living space, which is becoming increasingly significant not only in Munich. In the chapter "Mood in Bavaria" of the study "Das Bundesland der Superlative?" (Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, 2021), it is emphasized that people who live in Bavaria value the security, prosperity and reliability in the Free State. These factors play a special role when it comes to one's own home. However, due to the precarious development of the housing market, they are not only threatened, there is also the danger of losing them altogether. In a slow tracking shot, the lens in the film "Quadratmeter" scans unfinished buildings as if longing for something to make it its own. The work "Na und" (So What?) juxtaposes quotes in which people describe their experiences of apartment hunting, which resembles unrealistic self-promotion, with the film "Qualitätsmeter" (Quality Meters). Here, a man in front of a construction site mantra-like invokes the ideals of freedom, potential and uniqueness. But in the interplay of Jooss' work, it becomes clear that these are nothing but empty words from luxury brochures that he uncritically reproduces. Self-determination, flexibility, and optimization become promises here that ultimately collide with a wall. A wall that is cast everywhere from the same concrete.
